Betty (Shaffer) Akins

AMBRIDGE - Betty May Akins, 69, of Ambridge, died Thursday, January 18, 2007, in the Sewickley Valley Hospital.

Born January 5, 1938, in Fayette County, a daughter of the late Charles and Carrie Shaffer, she was a member of the Pinehurst Christian Missionary Alliance Church.

Surviving are her husband, Thomas Akins; a son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Lori Akins, Baden; two daughters and a son-in-law, Karen Goerman, Ambridge, and Lisa and Michael Longo Jr. Ambridge; nine grandchildren, Brittany, Ryan and Brandi Scott; Shane, Rachelle and Trever Akins; Lanny and Austin Goerman, and Michael Longo; five brothers and four sisters-in-law, Albert and Marie Shaffer, in Florida; Charles and Darlene Shaffer, Baden; Robert and Virginia Shaffer, in Florida; Larry and Melinda Shaffer, in Florida, and James Shaffer, in Virginia; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Ethel and Leonard Wheatley, in Ohio, and Mary and Ron Noss, in Florida, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin and Donald Shaffer, and a sister, Donna Shaffer.

The Bohn-Matich Funeral Home Inc., 1099 Maplewood Ave., Ambridge, was in charge of arrangements.
